City Church Care Team

City Church Care Team

by Pam Cooner

I first met Shirley when she came for prayer, asking me to pray for the Lord to provide the money she needed for rent in two weeks. She explained that she had become injured and could not physically do her job and was almost at the end of her savings. She lived alone, had no family, and had moved to the city to pursue her career. I asked if I could meet with her further and help her think through her short term and long term plan for being able to live on her own.

As I met with Shirley weekly to help her with her practical needs (i.e. contacting companies to create payment plans and decrease debt, setting up doctor’s appointments, cooking inexpensive but healthy meals together) I began to see how Shirley’s faith and trust in the Lord was an area where I needed to grow in my life. By walking alongside her I got to see God provide daily and answer almost impossible prayers. I got to celebrate the little and big successes with her.

The care team exists to practically help members and regular attenders meet their spiritual, physical, and emotional needs and to further use their gifts for the kingdom. You may be struggling with a job loss, financial pressure, an unexpected illness, needing a place to live, a natural disaster, a difficult marriage, loneliness, depression, or the death of a loved one. You should not have to go through this alone. The care team offers help in assessing needs and working together with you to find solutions. You can contact the care team by e-mailing us at care@citychurch.org or you can go to the City Church website and click on the link that says CARE. All messages to the care team are confidential, and we will try to contact you within 24 to 48 hours.
